Create: Complete eight design challenges in your first two years.

Engage in class, collaborate across campus, and explore the city. The Innovation, Technology, and Design program pushes you to apply your learning by addressing complex challenges. You will work independently and in teams on Design Challenges, while gaining relevant professional experience with leading organizations.

Our Ethos

The Innovation, Technology, and Design program brings together students and faculty across different disciplines. What unites this diverse community of learners and creators is a shared set of beliefs and mindsets, the five values that underpin the ITD program: 

  • Take Risks: Ask questions, dare to fail, and go off the beaten path.
  • Take Care: Positively contribute to others and the future; leave every place better than it was.
  • Aim High: Push the boundaries of what is possible and don’t settle for the status quo.
  • Think Deeply: Consider the purpose behind all decisions and pay attention to the details.
  • Go Beyond: Break down silos, make connections, and look for the unexpected.

In the Classroom

  • Active learning: Actively engage in discussion and exercises throughout every class.
  • Project-based learning: Apply the skills you learn to real world problems.
  • Scaffolding: Learn skills that are introduced in one course, reinforced in others, and scaffolded over time.
  • Assessment: Get frequent, low-stakes feedback and formative assessments that support your growth over time.

Outside the Classroom

  • Urban immersion: Explore the rich urban fabric of Miami through carefully curated off-campus events.
  • Classroom integration: Reinforce the skills you gain in tightly integrated extracurricular events.

Real World Industry Experience

  • Civic partners: Engage with Miami’s most innovative companies and civic organizations.
  • Industry partners: Tackle eight Design Challenges in the brand new Innovation Lab, addressing problems provided by leading organizations.
  • Internships: Acquire meaningful work experience integrated with your course of study through credit-bearing internships.
